‘Nurture’

This piece of timber came from the trees that sadly had to get taken down when they expanded fullarton road near the Waite arboretum at Urrbrae SA. My partner Paul, got the job of milling the trees for their timber to be used. The tree is called Casuarina cunninghamiana, river sheoak. A flowering hardwood, usually growing along river beds and creeks across eastern and northern Australia.

We created this woodcarving together.

The motif relates to the balance of giving nurture and receiving nurture. The importance of this framework, the cyclical nature of care.
